C5 Manufacturing Awards Scholarship to Local Student

  • Scholarship Recipient Truck Flatbed

C5 Manufacturing, a trusted provider of truck flatbeds, recently awarded a scholarship to Kristen Floyd, a local college student at Hutchinson Community College. In 2018, current C5 Manufacturing owner Corey Cress, and previous owner of Cannonball Engineering, Debbie Schrag, joined forces to offer area high schoolers a chance at furthering their education at vocational and technical schools. The original thought was to provide those who wanted to pursue careers like welding a boost in the right direction with their post-secondary degree. Eventually, the scholarship evolved into the annual C5 Manufacturing Technical School Scholarship to aid one student interested in a technical field and potentially find a place for them at C5 Manufacturing.

Throughout the four years of offering the scholarship, C5 Manufacturing has had various applications, from automotive tech students to those pursuing physical therapy degrees, but the main focus has been to help students in a vocational or technical program. For the past two years, the scholarship funds have been awarded to Kristen Floyd, a local Kingman County student. Learn more about Kristen and her plans toward pursuing an agricultural career below!

Get to Know Kristen Through A Quick Interview

  • What are you studying?

I am currently attending Hutchinson Community College and studying agricultural communications. I will eventually go to Fort Hayes State University to finish my undergraduate degree and hope to pursue a career in the marketing field or human resources.

  • What made you apply for this scholarship?

I graduated high school in 2020 and noticed that this scholarship benefitted Kingman County students. Kingman is an agricultural-based community, so when I saw this scholarship and knew that I wanted to pursue agricultural communications, I decided to apply!

  • How have the scholarship funds helped further your educational goals?

The first year I was awarded the scholarship, I received $1,000 to help pay for my expenses, and last year, I was able to renew the scholarship for $500. These funds helped pay for my books as I started at Call County Community College. I later decided to move closer to home and attend Hutchinson Community College, and having their scholarship was extremely beneficial during this time. I was able to pay for my first two years of school entirely with scholarship money!

  • What do you appreciate about your experience with C5 Manufacturing?

Being that I live in an agriculture-based community, it is great to know that they are an agriculture-related company that supports kids. It’s important that we find a way to feed everybody, and their business helps the industry do so.
